I’ve spied some stunning maxi skirts on Pinterest lately, so I couldn’t help but whip one up for myself. And by “whip up”, I mean over a couple of weeks with much unpicking and stubborn determination to get it finished.
Top: Rosie Miller // Skirt: self-made // Bag: thrifted // Necklace: Charisleeย // Shoes: No1 Shoe Warehouse
Don’t let that put you off though.ย The skirt itself was really easy to put together, it was the lining that got me. I didn’t want a gathered lining that may cause bulk, so I lazily cut two trapezoids when really I should have made the lining as a skirt with darts.
Lesson learned and I’m hoping this will be quicker to make second time around. My wardrobe needs more of these!
I used polyester chiffon (although I hear silk chiffon is the bees knees if you can get it) and a polyester knit fabric lining. It’s a lot of polyester! The potential for clingy static and zappy electric shocks all day had me worried a little, but surprisingly, it isn’t an issue and could be remedied with an anti-static spray if need be.
I’ve also spied a navy stretch crepe at the fabric store that would look perfect as a maxi skirt. I think I’ll have to make one! Is it possible to have too many maxi’s? Meh, I’ll let you know ๐
Nice skirt! Love the colour too!!
Thanks Rose! Your top goes perfectly with it ๐
I love the color! And way to go finish it! I would’ve just gone to the store and bought it ๐

If I found one in a nearby store, I probably would have done just that! Without the lining though, these are so easy to make that I’d happily sew one again ๐

Love the color! Though I think the lining could do with being a few inches shorter—it cuts off right in the middle of the skirt right now, which leaves things feeling a bit imbalanced since the ‘weight’ of the sheer portion is so much less than that of the non-sheer part.
Abby, thanks for the tip! When I posted the photos, I thought it looked a bit long in the lining too. Will definitely whip out the scissors for a little adjustment ๐
