No Sew Tutu

no sew tutu

The internet is swimming with tutorials for No Sew Tutu’s exactly like this one. Maybe it’s because they are just so ridiculously easy, fast and fun to make.

What? You haven’t seen it 23 times elsewhere yet? Fantastic! Because I’ve also written a tutorial here just for you. Continue reading

Floral Dress Updated

Dress Refashion

A very belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

A Happy Easter too. Just getting in early ’cause obviously I’m terrible at this kind of thing. Hope you’ve all had incredible holidays though.

Life has taken over from blogging lately as we’ve been loving this amazing summer. Plenty of beach time, lots of family fun and enough house painting to last, well, 10 years.

Amidst it all, I managed to find a bit of time to update this little floral number. It wasn’t so little when I first got it but after a nip tuck it’s looking much more 2013. Continue reading

Dolly Donations

DollsI unfortunately can’t take credit for all these dolls. My friend Kris made four in the time it took me to make one! Her two are on the left and Poppet cried when I took the pink one away from her.

I recently stumbled across the incredible website “Dolly Donations”, which assists those who wish to make dolls for children in need. Continue reading

Versatile Desk Pad

I’m one of those annoying customers that wants the wonder product that doesn’t exist.  The shoes that you can wear to a wedding, but are also suitable for jogging, housework and picnics.  The hairstyle that looks good now and also 6 months later when you haven’t had time for another trim.  Or the windows computer that doesn’t crash (and then tell you off for not shutting down your computer properly.  What’s with that?!).

Versatility is wonderful and yesterday I rediscovered the benefits of owning a deskpad.  That’s right.  That boring piece of office stationery that goes relatively unnoticed by many. Continue reading

Play at Home Fun

Sometimes motherhood is just a tough grind.  Relentless even.

I went through a patch recently where everyday felt like Groundhog Day.  The icing on the cake was the daily ritual of a 6 am wake up to the smell of Little Man (that’s right, smell) beside my bed and his little voice saying “poos”.

Honey, I love you immensely, but there are more cheery ways to begin the day.

So on days like that, morning distractions for Little Man are hugely important so I can fix a good, strong espresso and still drink it while it’s hot.  It does wonders for the sanity.

Here’s some low cost ideas that I’ve found handy and I thought I’d share them with you too (seeing as my sewing mojo has gone on a vacation *sigh*).  Things you can throw together in a moment of sheer desperation.  You know, those moments where you just want to shut yourself in the bathroom and cry, but your toddler just continues to hound you incessantly outside the door … just in case you needed a little more help being pushed over the edge. Refashion: Linen Shirt to Skirt

It’s freezing here today!  Not that you know it by the photo here.  My neighbours must think I’m crazy now (or maybe just crazier).  I took the above pic when it was raining and icy cold outside ’cause I didn’t like the light indoors.  I’m sure it’s snowing on the hills behind us today … brrr!!

So after my swift thrift the other weekend, I couldn’t wait to rip into this project.

Before

It’s wonderfully easy and makes the use of an existing hem which is fab ’cause I don’t enjoy doing those much.  In fact, projects have been left unfinished for weeks due to hemming procrastination **turning to view my pile of such projects**.

If I had a garish patterned shirt around, I think this would be the ideal project for it, so I’m on the prowl.

This is a good one for beginners to tackle and, now that we know what we’re doing, would take about 1-2 hours to whip up.
